We think it is great fun occasionally to “climb into a time machine” and get away from the present time. Easiest way to do this is to get lost in ancient civilizations,
and if you are to do that, one of the absolute best places to do so is Greece . Language, law, philosophy, athletic contests, dramatic plays- so many things in our daily lives- all had their origins in
ancient Greece. And what is so neat about it is that so much of that antiquity is still there today, as is their influence on our lives.. |
This is Acropolis hill at night. There are a number of important structures on this hill, and they date back six or seven centuries before Christ. The most important of these is the Parthenon. It
was completed in 438 B.C.
It is the symbol of the country, and you think of Greece, or Athens, whenever you see a picture of it. Same is true as when you see a picture of the Statue of Liberty, you think of New York or the
United States. But there are monuments like this all over Greece, and if you are a student of history, you will go crazy here because there is so much to take in and enjoy. Like this ruin in Nemea. |
The excavation here has allowed archeologists and architects to reconstruct much of the original setting used in the Panhellenic Games, including the stadium, the track, a bathhouse, and a temple to Zeus.

Hi, Barb, and thanks for writing! As you can see from our pictures of
our trip to Greece, we had no problems- and you shouldn't, either. You
may want to check ahead on your planned itinerary, however, as the
country is mountainous and some of the areas are not really accessible
to people in wheelchairs. Advance planning is the key. All things are
possible.
When you get back, please write me and let me know how things went for
you. Perhaps you can even offer some new ideas/suggestions I can include
on the website.
Best regards,
Nancy
